Hello, my dear children! Today we are going to talk about Scotland. What do you know about this country? Where is it situated? What is it famous for? Let's watch the video and find out the answers to all these questions.

Scotland is a country in the north of the United Kingdom. It occupies a third of Great Britain. The national flag of Scotland is blue with a white cross. The flag is known as St Andrew's cross. St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland. There are more than five million inhabitants in Scotland. The capital is Edinburgh. It is Scotland's second largest city. The largest city is Glasgow. Scotland is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. There are about 3000 smaller and bigger lakes in Scotland called lochs. There are almost 800 islands in Scotland. Tartan is woollen material with crossed stripes of different colours. The particular pattern is the symbol of a clan or a family. Scotland's most famous poet is Robert Burns. His birthday is celebrated all over the world by Scotsmen wherever they are on 25 January. It is Burns' Night. Some famous actors from Scotland are Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor, Gerard Butler, Billy Connolly.

Ireland

Ireland is situated in the north-west of Europe. There is the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Irish Sea to the east. The capital of the Republic of Ireland and its biggest city is Dublin. 

Ireland became a member of the European Union in 1973. The colours of the flag of Ireland, from left to right, are green, white, orange.The longest river in Ireland is the River Shannon.  Threre aren't any high mountains in Ireland. The highest mountain is Carrauntoohill. There are also some big lakes in Ireland. The biggest lake is Lough Corrib. The climate is warm and wet. People in Ireland are very charmig, fun loving and friendly. They speak both Irish and English. These two languages are official in Ireland. Every year on the seventeenth of March they remember their patron saint St Patrick.The national symbol of Ireland is a shamrock. Ireland is famous for its writers.There are also many old stories with leprechauns.
